That is a function in the brain of all of us so when you are planning to tackle a search engine, think more advance.
It isn't a simple binary if this is that kind of thing any more.
Your categories should reflect your website and for the love of god, no ads for the first month. Search engines LOVE real unique content ad free. The PREFER it.
To get a 2-7 min response time from the search engines your domain name MUST be an adjective based domain name because your going to need to use that to get a boost in the rankings when you are relating your website to the competition.
When it comes to competition you know what I do? I take there articles and translate them then spin them back to english and poop them back out on my site. Just enough to tie on their rankings then I go ahead and make sure I either double the size of my aritcle postings (more posts more often) or I'm going to increase the percieved unique value of the articles I am posting by making sure I'm just a little bit better than the guys who are ranking for the keywords phrases I'm trying to associate with. I don't want to rank with their keywords, I just want it to make sense when my urls start showing up in referer logs for their sites.
When it comes to content RSS is king for the auto content but it has a down side. It is to hard to get in trouble. Make sure to give the post the credit it's due every time or the search engines will know it. This means you will be given preference in the search engine over your competition who might be greedy and try to fool the engine in to thinking it was their content.
Don't get hooked up in the comment game so make sure you have protection right away. akismet is great. Spammers with no skill suck and I love watching them get caught. Most of my comments slip by because I take the time to do my research and you should as well because 3-400 comments a day results in about 100 a month in ass stomping splog juice links.
Every plugin you MUST have is free and can be installed within wordpress. Buying them is cool. Nulled ones can have a price. A backdoor leaking your DB is the usual one.
